Summary:
The United States has stop a cyber criminal from stealing financial data. With the virus they spread they manage to steal between 10 million to 100 dollars. The use a malicious software to complete this. They manage to control 2 million computers. The US stut down the ring of this software to avoid this.
Relevance:
This article is relevance to our class since it takes the internet to accomplish this crime. I remember one of my professor said a virus is used for good and bad. Well I never understood that. Virus has been an assault to computers for a long time.
Quote:
“U.S. government programmers shut down the Coreflood botnet on Tuesday. They also instructed the computers enslaved in the botnet to stop sending stolen data and to shut down. A similar tactic was used in a Dutch case, but it was the first time U.S. authorities had used this method to shut down a botnet, according to court documents.” I choose this quote because I don’t know what “Botnet” means. According to Wikipedia, botnet is a collection of infected computers or bots that have been taken over by crackers (also known as bot herders) and are used to perform malicious tasks or functions.

QR Codes: Will They Be Big In 2011?
Beatricewhelan
January 5th, 2011
Summary:
This is not a new technology. This is a scan pixilated image code that if you scan it, it can lead to contacting any information depending on what the code is for. This code image has been around since 1994 in Japan. You may find them in advertisements or other devices on screen. They can either lead you to certain images, video or even a website.
Relevance:
This article is relevance to the world of the Internet because the QR code can easily lead to websites now. If someone wants to see a site from the ad they are looking at, they just scan the QR code and launch. Now, most ads have this code and it is more convenient.
Quote:
“The use of the QR Code is free of any license. You can also generate your own QR code for free by using one of the many QR code generating websites.” I say this quote is important to me because if we can generate our own QR code, we can easily promote or network. It makes it a little easy in a way that if people can’t contact you one way, they can try the other.

Good Bye TV

Good Bye TV
Internet Killed the Television Star

http://www.vision2mobile.com/articles/2011/03/internet-killed-the-television-star.aspx
Summary:
Lately people do not view the television as they use to. As radio and books were push aside for television, now the television is the one to be rejected. People now mostly want to multi task and get interactive. Due to Hulu and Netflix, tv will not be necessary.
Relevance to class:
This topic is relevance to the class because the internet is changing our life little by little. We use internet to watch movies or videos. We use the internet to buy items online. We use internet to communicate. We will not have to get out of home if we can work online ( which I will not recommend until its safe to or it becomes the norm). The internet is used many times lately, so this is a good opportunity for web designer to get there jobs
Quote:
“At the same time people have more options for viewing content they used to watch at home, television viewing on a traditional set is changing with the advent of Internet-connected set-top boxes and IPTV services. TV is becoming more interactive, with value-added features that affect how people live their daily lives that go beyond sheer entertainment, Hettick said.” I chose this quote because it tells me that TV is in trouble. I assume cable might be in this position as well.
