Summary:
The United States has stop a cyber criminal from stealing financial data. With the virus they spread they manage to steal between 10 million to 100 dollars. The use a malicious software to complete this. They manage to control 2 million computers. The US stut down the ring of this software to avoid this.
Relevance:
This article is relevance to our class since it takes the internet to accomplish this crime. I remember one of my professor said a virus is used for good and bad. Well I never understood that. Virus has been an assault to computers for a long time.
Quote:
“U.S. government programmers shut down the Coreflood botnet on Tuesday. They also instructed the computers enslaved in the botnet to stop sending stolen data and to shut down. A similar tactic was used in a Dutch case, but it was the first time U.S. authorities had used this method to shut down a botnet, according to court documents.” I choose this quote because I don’t know what “Botnet” means. According to Wikipedia, botnet is a collection of infected computers or bots that have been taken over by crackers (also known as bot herders) and are used to perform malicious tasks or functions.
