http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-05-09-ps3-brink-release-unaffected-by-psn-hack

Summary:

A few weeks ago, the Playstation Network was shutdown due to the hacking. The new game Brink was releases this week. Many people are adapted to playing online with others. This caused many to go back to playthe Brink game single mode. How ever, many switched to X-Box to have the online experience with this game.

Relevance:

The article is relevance to our web class because users use the internet to play the multiplayer from different location. If the system gets hack, then it will be a problem for those company that are trying to make traffic.

Quote:

The quote I choose was ”However, with a full PSN restoration potentially weeks away, Brink console sales are expected to be heavily skewed towards Xbox 360. “ I choose this one because you can see that low traffic can cause people to go to other companies.

Cyber Bullying

Article on Cyber-Bullying
Mitchell H. Rubinstein
February 6, 2011
http://lawprofessors.typepad.com/adjunctprofs/2011/02/article-on-cyber-bullying.html

Summary:

The court of New York does not recognize cyber bullying as an cognizable tort of action. Reviewing the case, the jurisdiction sees this differently. The court examines the context analysis in depth. Being in war with the use of writing is a crime.

Relevance:

This topic is relevance to the internet world because many users communicate through either e-mail, social network, or messengers. Users must be careful with the text or words they use when communicating online. it’s a good thing it happens rarely.

Quote:

“In the absence of a contextual analysis—present in New York's defamation law, but missing from many of the proposed and existing cyber-bullying laws—this kind of communication, familiar to anyone who has ever been in a "flame war," could become a crime.” According to this article it says that, “This is an important topic that is likely to spur more litigation. Law review commentary on this important topic would be most welcomed.”

April 13, 2011

http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/04/13/us-cybersecurity-coreflood-idUSTRE73C7NQ20110413

Summary:

The United States has stop a cyber criminal from stealing financial data. With the virus they spread they manage to steal between 10 million to 100 dollars. The use a malicious software to complete this. They manage to control 2 million computers. The US stut down the ring of this software to avoid this.

Relevance:

This article is relevance to our class since it takes the internet to accomplish this crime. I remember one of my professor said a virus is used for good and bad. Well I never understood that. Virus has been an assault to computers for a long time.

Quote:

“U.S. government programmers shut down the Coreflood botnet on Tuesday. They also instructed the computers enslaved in the botnet to stop sending stolen data and to shut down. A similar tactic was used in a Dutch case, but it was the first time U.S. authorities had used this method to shut down a botnet, according to court documents.” I choose this quote because I don’t know what “Botnet” means.  According to Wikipedia, botnet is a collection of infected computers or bots that have been taken over by crackers (also known as bot herders) and are used to perform malicious tasks or functions.

QR Codes: Will They Be Big In 2011?
Beatricewhelan
January 5th, 2011

Summary:
This is not a new technology. This is a scan pixilated image code that if you scan it, it can lead to contacting any information depending on what the code is for.  This code image has been around since 1994 in Japan. You may find them in advertisements or other devices on screen. They can either lead you to certain images, video or even a website.

Relevance:
This article is relevance to the world of the Internet because the QR code can easily lead to websites now. If someone wants to see a site from the ad they are looking at, they just scan the QR code and launch. Now, most ads have this code and it is more convenient.

Quote:
“The use of the QR Code is free of any license. You can also generate your own QR code for free by using one of the many QR code generating websites.” I say this quote is important to me because if we can generate our own QR code, we can easily promote or network.  It makes it a little easy in a way that if people can’t contact you one way, they can try the other.

Good Bye TV

Internet Killed the Television Star
Elizabeth Montalbano
March 1, 2011
http://www.vision2mobile.com/articles/2011/03/internet-killed-the-television-star.aspx

Summary:

Lately people do not view the television as they use to. As radio and books were push aside for television, now the television is the one to be rejected. People now mostly want to multi task and get interactive. Due to Hulu and Netflix, tv will not be necessary.

Relevance to class:

This topic is relevance to the class because the internet is changing our life little by little. We use internet to watch movies or videos. We use the internet to buy items online. We use internet to communicate. We will not have to get out of home if we can work online ( which I will not recommend until its safe to or it becomes the norm). The internet is used many times lately, so this is a good opportunity for web designer to get there jobs

Quote:

“At the same time people have more options for viewing content they used to watch at home, television viewing on a traditional set is changing with the advent of Internet-connected set-top boxes and IPTV services. TV is becoming more interactive, with value-added features that affect how people live their daily lives that go beyond sheer entertainment, Hettick said.” I chose this quote because it tells me that TV is in trouble. I assume cable might be in this position as well.

By MARK McDONALD
Published: February 21, 2011

Summary:

South Korea has been claim to have the fastest internet connection.  The Koreans has the fastest connection leaving Honking number 2 and Japan number 3. The gigabit internet will be the future technology for faster connection. The advantage of this is to manipulate videogames or tv online.

Relevance to class:

This article is related to the class because the internet is improving to the benefit of the user. The user is important while using the internet. They must feel comfortable and understand it. If the internet takes to long to load, the user might lose his or her patience.

Quote:

"By the end of 2012, South Korea intends to connect every home in the country to the Internet at one gigabit per second. That would be a tenfold increase from the already blazing national standard and more than 200 times as fast as the average household setup in the United States," is the quote I choose for my review. This quote shows that the future of the internet will be very fast and smooth for the users.

iPhones has an application that can control their car. The application also tell you where the nearest cache is and book your car directly from the screen. If you are near enough, you can control the car. With the application , you can beep the horn and lock the doors of your car.

Relevance to class:

This article is related to the class because the technology is improving in controling other device with a touch from an application. Online communication gives many the advantage and benefits. Internet gives us information and helps communicate. In this case, the application uses online service to control their electronic car.

Quote:

"They that can tell you where the nearest cache is and book your car directly from the screen, but the new version for the Apple mobile life controller will not only show you a pin on a Google Map, it will beep the horn and unlock the doors once you’re close enough.," is the quote I choose for my review. This quote tells me that if I loose my keys and I have my iPhone and the application, I will be able to get in my car and ue it without going through the trouble of getting some help.

Summary:

Lately social media has been taking over in the internet industry. Emails and Blogs are being left behind due to the increase of social network use and users. Texting and social media has an advantage in finding and communicating with your friends. Unfortunately, this was just a phase and email using will return to its normal rate or higher.

Relevance to class:

This article is related to the class because the social media such as Facebook or Twitter has played a huge role in the internet. Most people has accounts for one or the other. They are the website most used by users. Since this creates traffic online, what might other website want to do?

Important quote:

"I’m not sure which came first, the idea that social media is killing blogs or social media is killing email," is the quote I choose for my review. This quote tells me that one or the other, social media is making huge progress and. And its caused emails to be ignored.  According to Chris, he does not know which came first which I wish he would had research.

By National Science Foundation
January 19, 2011
url:
http://www.usnews.com/science/articles/2011/01/19/improved-measurements-of-sun-to-advance-understanding-of-climate-change

Our technology improves each day which benefits us towards our future. In this article we can see that technology has been improving in the productions of satellites. The current satellite we have does not get enough values on the solar irradiance. According to the Solar Electricity Handbook 2011 Edition (not in the article), solar irradiance is a measure of how much solar power you are getting at your location. Now the current satellite has better accuracy of its values on the solar irradiance. With this satellite we can estimate the influence on the earths climate. Does the sun light has any affect in our atmosphere of the earth? With these measurement, we can see how the earth behaves. In the pass 11 years, the solar variability has been producing by 0.1 Celsius. This is not the reason for global warming. What can we find out with solar irradiance and its effect on earth?

This article is related to the class because the satellite helps communicate with the user to measure a certain unit in the astronomy field.  Comparing this to what we are learning, the internet helps us communicate with others in different ways and by sharing information. Also the satellite in space can communicate with the satellite in earth that way the people can receive the information on solar irradiance. Here is the bog connection between the article and our class.

"Improved accuracies and stabilities in the long-term total solar irradiance record mean improved estimates of the sun's influence on Earth's climate," is the quote I choose for my review. This quote tells me how people will find out the earths climate due to the suns solar irradiance.
